One of the most anticipated stop-motion films of the last few years is LAIKA's Wildwood, which is directed by Travis Knight and Chris Butler. The film adaptation is based on the dark fantasy novel Wildwood by Colin Meloy (2011), illustrated by Carson Ellis. The movie was in the conceptual phase for over ten years and has been officially in production since 2021.
LAIKA's Wildwood is a story of a mysterious forest that is a magical realm. Prue McKeel, with her classmate Curtis Mehlberg, goes on a journey to the enchanted world to find and rescue Prue's infant brother. Mac was taken by crows and the felons who are serving a powerful woman named Alexandra.
Some of the characters the film features are voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, and Angela Bassett.
Who stars in LAIKA's Wildwood?
1) Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Prue McKeel
Peyton Elizabeth (Image Via Getty)The first mention of LAIKA's Wildwood cast should be of Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who gave her voice to the film's protagonist, Prue McKeel. Lee’s defining role was that of the lead character in Disney Channel’s Andi Mack (2017–2019).
Lee was the lead in the Disney film Secret Society of Second-Born Royals (2020), and the medical drama Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. (2021–2023) was her next project.
2) Jacob Tremblay as Curtis Mehlberg
Jacob Tremblay (Image Via Getty)Canadian actor Jacob Tremblay lends his voice to Curtis Mehlberg, Prue’s classmate and companion in LAIKA's Wildwood. Tremblay had a very good recognition of his performance in the movie Room (2015), and as a result, he was awarded the best young performer at the Critics' Choice Award and a few other notable nominations for the same year.
He has since acted in such films as Wonder (2017), Good Boys (2019) and had voice roles in animated feature films such as Pixar’s Luca (2021) and Netflix’s Orion and the Dark (2024), for which he won an Emmy Award.
Tremblay has also participated in different projects, such as Harley Quinn and Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid (2023).
3) Carey Mulligan

She initiated her film career with Pride & Prejudice (2005), and her rise started with An Education (2009). Among her credits are the films Drive (2011), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), Promising Young Woman (2020), and Maestro (2023).
4) Mahershala Ali
Mahershala Ali (Image Via Getty)Mahershala Ali, a two-time Oscar winner, is the voice of one of the major characters in LAIKA's Wildwood. Ali's vibrant career highlights the movies Moonlight (2016) and Green Book (2018), which brought him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor twice.
Apart from that, he has also been part of the TV series House of Cards, True Detective and lent his voice to Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and its sequel.

5) Angela Bassett as The General (a golden eagle)

She has an Academy Award nomination for the role of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It (1993). Besides that, her significant motion pictures are: Boyz n the Hood (1991), Malcolm X (1992), and Queen Ramonda in Marvel’s Black Panther films, which got her a second Oscar nomination.
On TV, Bassett has done leading roles in American Horror Story and 9-1-1.
