The Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation has been one of the worst in the NFL since moving on from Baker Mayfield in favor of Deshaun Watson. The Browns have started the likes of P.J. Walker, Bailey Zappe, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the midst of Watson making $230 million fully guaranteed.
While many fully expect the Browns to draft a quarterback with one of their two first round picks, they could end up forgoing taking a Ty Simpson or Fernando Mendoza in favor of acquiring current Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
Murray was placed on IR after Jacoby Brissett led the Cardinals to a big road win over the Dallas Cowboys, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Murray and the Cardinals parting ways is the most likely outcome.
"Arizona and Murray are expected to have extensive discussions to help determine whether to move forward together or go their own ways," Schefter writes. "Many sources believe the latter is the likely outcome, with one source saying this week that 'a separation is imminent.'"
With that in mind, the Browns could be a team to keep an eye on for Murray. While his fit in Arizona may not be a good one, Murray could find new life in Cleveland, especially if they take a big-name wide receiver in the first round of the draft.
The quarterback life hasn't been great for the New York Jets, either. They have one win on the year, and Justin Fields ranks 26th in EPA per play. Perhaps they could be a team to take another big swing on a quarterback trade, bringing Murray in to pair with Aaron Glenn.
The two teams will square off in Week 10, as the Browns look to get to 3-6 and keep their very slim playoff chances alive.
