(Bloomberg) — At least one person was killed and ten injured as Ukraine’s capital faced the latest in a series of airstrikes from Russia over recent days, local authorities said.

Ukraine’s Air Forces said they shot down four out of nine ballistic missiles and 50 out of 62 strike drones launched by Kremlin forces overnight.

Much of Kyiv came under fire, with damaged sustained mostly to residential areas and municipal infrastructure, including a kindergarten, Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv military administration, said on Telegram.

The central Dnipropetrovsk and northeastern Kharkiv regions of Ukraine were also under attack and suffered casualties, local authorities said on Telegram.

The attacks came amid President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s latest talks with European allies, as well as the imposition of tougher sanctions over Russian energy sector by the US. Plans for a peace summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were also postponed this week.

Together with Scandinavian countries, the European Council and so-called Coalition of Willing’ partner countries, Zelenskiy on Friday discussed the provision of additional air defense equipment, using Russian frozen assets for funding, and support for Ukraine’s energy sector.

Energy infrastructure has been among the major targets of attacks by Russia this month, causing significant degradation to Ukraine’s electricity and gas production capacity and resulting in widespread rolling power outages.

The US Treasury Department on Wednesday blacklisted Russian state-run oil giant Rosneft PJSC and Lukoil PJSC, citing “Russia’s lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine.” The EU imposed a full transaction ban on Rosneft and Gazprom Neft PJSC, and sanctioned 117 additional so-called shadow fleet vessels, which have enabled Russia to evade previous measures.

Zelenskiy praised those steps and said that sanctions remain one of the most painful blows for Putin. “Russia can signal to the world all it wants that sanctions supposedly don’t affect its economy, but everyone can see the truth – gas station lines inside Russia, bankrupt regions, federal budget deficit,” Zelenskiy said in his Friday’s night address to the nation.

Separately, seven drones heading toward Moscow overnight were neutralized, Sergei Sobyanin, mayor of Russia’s capital, said on Telegram. Emergency services were working at the sites where drone debris landed, he added.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said 121 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed by air defense systems during past night, according to its Telegram statement.
