The Knicks escaped with a 118-116 win in a chippy Game 3 against the Pistons on Thursday night, thanks to a 61-point explosion from Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.
The win gave New York a 2-1 lead in the first-round series and now Detroit has to respond. Game 4 tips off at 1 p.m. Sunday at Little Caesars Arena, where the Pistons will look to tie things up in their first postseason appearance since 2019.
This is the first playoff clash between the two teams since 1992 and their fourth overall. The Knicks won in 1984 and 1992, while the Pistons took the 1990 East semis.
Towns and Mikal Bridges, both acquired in offseason trades, are playing their first playoff series for New York. Brunson (26.0 points, 7.3 assists) and Towns (24.4 points, 42% from three) led the NBA's fifth-ranked offense.
Meanwhile, Cade Cunningham (26.1/9.1/6.1) powered a 44-win Pistons team under J.B. Bickerstaff, who's drawing Coach of the Year buzz.
