The past few weeks for John Konchar have been wild, to say the least, as he has been involved in some crazy whirlwinds of roster moves. He is one of the top free agents available after being released by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Less than a month ago, he was with the Utah Jazz. However, he was then traded to the Timberwolves in a move to open up space for Jonathan Kuminga.
“The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar, the teams announced Saturday. The Timberwolves are expected to keep Williams, the No. 10 pick in 2024, and waive-and-stretch Konchar, sources told ESPN. Saturday is the final day to waive a player and stretch out his guaranteed salary over multiple seasons," ESPN's Shams Charania wrote.
As one of the top free agents left with training camp approaching, Konchar had multiple teams interested in him. The New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, and Miami Heat were among the teams to show interest.
“John Konchar is one of the top free agents available and has drawn interest, league sources say, from Miami, New York, Orlando and Toronto,” The Stein Line’s Marc Stein wrote.
On Tuesday night, Konchar’s agent let ESPN’s Shams Charania know that his client would be signing with New York.
“Free agent forward John Konchar agreed to a deal with the New York Knicks, agent George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group told ESPN on Tuesday night. Konchar, 30, is entering his eighth NBA season after spending 2025-26 with the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies,” Charania wrote.
This is a huge addition for the Knicks, as they get a reliable veteran who will provide great depth. Konchar will be able to step up when guys miss games, which will happen at some point.
Konchar has made $21 million in his career to this point. It is still unknown what the exact deal is until it is finalized. However, it seems like New York got one of the guys they have been so patient to wait on.
