The New York Knicks are coming off their first NBA championship in over a few decades. They were led by superstar Jalen Brunson, who was a nightmare for the San Antonio Spurs.
He was the Finals MVP. Brunson’s biggest thing is that he will be the same version of himself and not get complacent.
“It will be the same. It’s something that I get to walk around with and think about when I’m — when I need to give myself a little confidence, or whatever, just in certain situations. But my approach and everything has to be the same. Just because I’ve reached the mountaintop of winning an NBA championship doesn’t mean that it’s over with. I feel like there’s still a lot more to do and a lot more that I can prove. It’s 100 percent always going to be in the mind, I’m just not going to let it define me,” Brunson said.
At the end of the Finals run, the MVP had wrist surgery after battling through the playoffs with the injury.
“New York Knicks Finals MVP Jalen Brunson is undergoing surgery on his left wrist and is expected to return to basketball activities later this summer, sources tell ESPN,” ESPN’s Shams Charania posted.
With training camp coming up, there was some wondering if he would be available. ESPN’s Vincent Goodwill gave a great update on Brunson.
“[Jalen Brunson's] at about 80 to 85% after the wrist surgery that he had in July. ... He'll have no restrictions when training camp begins in a couple of weeks,” Goodwill said.
The Knicks will likely be very cautious with the way they use Brunson until it gets closer to the season. Brunson isn’t at full health yet, but he is pretty close, so he will still be working his way up.
New York has pretty much the same roster from last season, so he doesn’t really need to form chemistry with others. There are some veterans who will be fighting for a roster spot, giving him the opportunity to give his input. It is great news that Brunson will be back for training camp with no restrictions.
