The UCI Road World Championships are the traditional capstone to the cycling season, with the best of the best riding for rainbow jerseys before winding things down for a bit.
This year's edition in Montreal will have a much different dynamic than the cycling world anticipated most of the year. The unquestioned top rider in the world, Tadej Pogacar, will not be able to try for a third consecutive road race championship after suffering multiple injuries in crashing out of the Vuelta a España.
While the absence of the top dog is disappointing, it also opens up the entire men's competition to a wide field of contenders in the time trial and road race, which should make for an intriguing week of racing. Geography is another factor to watch. While virtually all top-level riders are based in Europe and worlds are traditionally held on the continent or at least in a nearby time zone, this is the first road worlds in North America since Richmond 2015 and could give riders from the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Colombia a bit of an edge.
It isn't just the elite men in action, though. A full week of racing is on tap featuring the top women along with Under-23 and junior world championships. See below for all you need to know about what's happening when, and where to watch it.
