If they didn’t already know, NBA players will quickly discover that Exhibit 10 deals are temporary.
Considering franchises are tasked with ensuring that their NBA and G-League rosters are set for the upcoming season, signing a free agent to an Exhibit 10 contract before waiving them shortly after is the easiest way to fill open G-League spots.
A 6-foot-8 former San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City forward was one of five players to endure that experience last Thursday.
“ New York Knicks Waive Isaiah Roby,” the organization's PR team reported on X/Twitter.
Roby was the No. 45 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, as the Nebraska product landed with the Dallas Mavericks after the Detroit Pistons traded their pick to the 2011 NBA champions.
However, the Mavericks moved on from Roby after half a season, trading him to the Oklahoma City Thunder in late January of 2020.
The Dixon, Illinois native had his moments with the Thunder, recording a 30-point scoring outing towards the end of the 2021-22 season and notching 15+ points on several occasions.
Still, Oklahoma City elected to waive Roby in July of 22, allowing the Spurs to claim him off waivers.
Roby appeared in 43 regular-season contests with the Spurs in 2022-23, contributing 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game on 43.2% field goal shooting.
The 2023 G-League Showcase Cup champion appears G-League bound this season following the Knicks’ sign-and-waive decision.
