It was just a matter of time before we started seeing trade rumors surrounding Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby, but those rumors were squashed before getting off the ground.
On Tuesday, former ESPN anchor Trey Wingo reported that the Dallas Cowboys made a call to the Raiders to inquire about a trade for Crosby as Las Vegas is heading toward another losing season.
However, later in the day, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Jane Slater reported that the Raiders and Crosby met and the team informed the star edge rusher it doesn't intend to trade him, and Crosby wants to stay.
"The Raiders met with star DE Maxx Crosby today to let him know they aren’t shopping him and won’t trade him, sources tell me and Jane Slater," Pelissero reported.
"While other teams are interested, the Raiders aren’t interested in moving their best player, and Crosby wants to stay in Las Vegas," he added. "Despite various rumors with the trade deadline 2 weeks away, the face of the franchise isn't leaving Las Vegas."
This is obviously bad news for the Cowboys, who are clearly shopping around for a big move as they look to improve their defense, and especially along the edge, where Dallas never replaced the production lost from the Micah Parsons trade.
This is also a gut punch for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, all of whom have been connected to interest in an edge rusher trade.
The Niners lost Nick Bosa for the season and now Bryce Huff is hurt and could miss multiple, so their need is dire. San Francisco has just nine sacks in seven games, tied for the third-fewest in the NFL.
The Eagles needed a significant addition after the retirement of Za'Darius Smith, and that need still remains even after Brandon Graham came out of retirement. Philadelphia has 11 sacks in 2025, tied for the fifth-fewest in the league.
In Detroit, the Lions need more help for Aidan Hutchinson with Marcus Davenport still on injured reserve, although the Lions' pass-rush is still thriving with 23 sacks through seven contests, making a blockbuster trade less likely.
With Crosby off the board, the Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles and Lions will have to look elsewhere for help.
