The Knicks were cooking at home in Game 1.
But then things took a turn.
Despite going on a 14-0 run early in the fourth quarter, New York choked away the lead and lost 138-135 in overtime on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
With a chance to close out the game in the final seconds of the fourth, New York allowed Tyrese Haliburton to hit a dramatic two-pointer — with his toe just on the 3-point arc — that bounced high off the rim before coming back down into the net at the buzzer, forcing overtime.
New York led by seven points heading into the second half, though that lead was trimmed to two points in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. But after the 14-0 run, it appeared the Knicks had a win locked down before Indiana’s wild comeback.
Jalen Brunson’s 43 points were not enough as the Knicks lost an absolute heartbreaker.
The two teams will meet again at MSG for Game 2 on Friday at 8 p.m.
