As the Seattle Seahawks prepare for the Super Bowl, their offensive coordinator will be talking to the Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals about their head-coaching vacancies.
Kubiak has a window to take second interviews with both teams this week, and the expectation is that will happen by the weekend.
The Cardinals and Raiders are the only options left for Kubiak in terms of landing a head-coaching gig, but he can also return to Seattle and wait another year.
When it comes to the Raiders' chances of landing Kubiak, Essentially Sports' Tony Pauline believes it's 60-40 in favor of him landing in Las Vegas.
However, Pauline is not as optimistic for the Cardinals and says Kubiak would likely return to Seattle instead of going to Arizona.
“I was told yesterday that he’s going to be visiting with the Arizona Cardinals and the Las Vegas Raiders. I’m told that if the Raiders job is not available to him and it’s just the Arizona job, there’s a very likely chance he goes back to Seattle,” Pauline said on Unnecessary Roughness with Q Myers.
“I’d say right now it’s probably 60-40 that he takes the Raiders job if it’s offered to him. Like I said in the report, he is the 8th candidate. He is the guy that everybody wants right now,” Pauline added.
Pauline reiterated that a significant factor in Kubiak's decision with the Raiders is his comfort level "with the situation in Las Vegas," something he touched on in an article for Essentially Sports on Wednesday.
"I’m told any candidate, including Kubiak, must be comfortable with minority owner and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady looking over their shoulder and potentially second-guessing decisions," Pauline reported.
Pauline goes on to say that he expects the Raiders to make Kubiak "a huge offer."
At this point, the Raiders have to back up the Brinks truck to make sure they seal the deal with Kubiak. He's the best candidate left and missing out on him would leave Las Vegas in a tough spot.
The Raiders do have other finalists for the job, including Denver Broncos passing-game coordinator Davis Webb and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, both of whom Las Vegas has interviewed twice.
But there is nothing exciting about Evero, and Webb will be a huge gamble, as he's only 31 years old and has never even been an offensive coordinator in the NFL.
We would expect the Raiders to push as hard as possible for Kubiak, but if they strike out on him, Webb likely becomes the favorite to be Las Vegas' next head coach.
