Cowboys' Jerry Jones faces Jimmy Johnson's sharp critique on defensive roster woes

Jerry Jones faces severe scrutiny from a familiar face regarding his roster management. Jimmy Johnson has publicly analyzed a massive transaction involving the Dallas Cowboys.

Johnson criticized the decision to send Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The legendary coach recently expressed his strong disapproval on The Pat McAfee Show.

He stated, "I just don’t think you get rid of game-changing players. Somehow, some way, you find a way to keep them."

The trade was finalized on August 28, 2025, following a heated contract dispute. Dallas received Kenny Clark and 1st-round picks in 2026 and 2027.

Parsons had amassed 52.5 sacks over 63 games before leaving Texas. His agent previously halted negotiations by saying, "Don’t bother because we’ve got all that to negotiate."

Packers quickly signed Parsons to a 4-year extension worth $188 million. He recorded 12.5 sacks in 14 games before suffering a torn ACL in December 2025.

Jimmy Johnson analyzes Cowboys' defensive collapse

Dallas endured a miserable 2025 season, finishing 7-9-1. The defense allowed an NFL-high 511 points without their former dominant star pass rusher.

Johnson bluntly called the unit "horrible" after they ranked last in pass defense. He noted, "I think they can make some corrections on defense."

This poor performance led to the firing of defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. The franchise has since hired Christian Parker to fix the unit for 2026.

Johnson admitted that Jones "made the right move for what it was." Dallas holds the No. 12 and No. 20 picks in the upcoming draft.

Using these assets wisely remains critical for the Cowboys to validate this controversial trade. The team must find new talent to replace the impact Parsons provided.
