Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Callahan emerge as Giants offensive coordinator candidates

Add some head-coaching experience to the Giants offensive coordinator search.

Former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and former Titans head coach Brian Callahan are candidates to fill the vacancy on John Harbaugh’s staff, according to an ESPN report. It is unclear whether the Giants already have spoken to Kingsbury and Callahan or are trying to set up future interviews.

Kingsbury most recently served as the Commanders offensive coordinator for two seasons, including Jayden Daniels’ all-time great rookie quarterback season in 2024. But he and head coach Dan Quinn mutually parted ways in January over a reported disagreement in offensive philosophy after the Commanders finished No. 22 in both points and yards per game during a season in which Daniels was limited to seven games.

Kingsbury was part of the Ravens head coach search, though the job ultimately went to Jesse Minter.

Minter and new Titans head coach Robert Saleh then picked Declan Doyle and Brian Daboll, respectively, over Kingsbury to run their offenses.

Callahan was fired as Titans head coach six games into last season — just his second on the job and his first with No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward at quarterback.

Callahan carries the Peyton Manning stamp of approval from his days as a young assistant with the Super Bowl-winning Broncos but the key notch on his résumé is offensive coordinator for the Bengals from 2019-23, including the development of a young Joe Burrow and a run to the Super Bowl.

The Giants still have an opening at offensive line coach and Callahan’s father — the legendary offensive line coach and former Raiders head coach Bill Callahan — worked under his son with the Titans. But the elder Callahan was just hired as Falcons offensive line coach by his old boss Kevin Stefanski, so the odds of a father-son package would be dependent on Stefanski’s kindness.

The Giants interviewed Colts pass-game coordinator Alex Tanney and Chargers quarterbacks coach Shane Day late last week and were hoping to speak with Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb. Webb and Tanney are former Giants backup quarterbacks, and Harbaugh can get the inside scoop on Day from his younger brother, Jim (Chargers head coach).
