Keyshawn Davis vs. Edwin De Los Santos undercard: New main event, complete list of fights after lightweight title bout called off

6 hours ago 1

Keyshawn Davis will have hoped June 7 would be a homecoming to remember as he sought to defend the WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos. It was, in a sense, but for the wrong reasons.

The fight at Scope Arena in Virginia was cancelled after Davis came in 4.3 pounds overweight. "I've been making this weight for over four years now. I just outgrew the weight. I tried... I just outgrew the weight," he said as he was stripped of his title.

It was later confirmed that the fight would not go ahead, with De Los Santos' camp deciding against allowing their man to enter the ring. Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz said to ESPN: "We renegotiated at 10 pounds over, offered more money, but came to the conclusion that Davis never tried to make weight. He showed up dancing on the scale. We didn't want a repeat of [Devin] Haney vs. Ryan Garcia. We cancelled the fight."

It means we'll have a new main event: Abdullah Mason vs. Jeremia Nakathila. The lightweight bout was top of the undercard and will see 21-year-old Mason (18-0) take on the Namibian Nakathila, who lost to Shakur Stevenson for the interim WBO super featherweight title in 2021.

The fight at the Scope Arena in Virginia airs on Fubo and ESPN+.

Several members of the Davis family will still compete on the undercard, while prospects look to continue their momentum.
