Kewan Lacy injury updates: Ole Miss star RB leaves game vs. LSU with shoulder injury

1 hour ago 3

Ole Miss was thrilled to bring back running back Kewan Lacy this season, but the junior's health has continued to be a storyline after he battled a nagging injury during the College Football Playoff.

Lacy didn't finish Ole Miss' opener against Louisville, and he exited again during the game against his former coach and LSU on Saturday night.

Once projected to be a Heisman Trophy candidate, Lacy is hoping just to stay on the field consistently as the season presses on.

Here's what you need to know about Lacy's status after he left Saturday's game.

Early differentials include:
• AC joint injury
• Stinger/brachial plexus irritation
• Clavicle (collarbone) injury

Ole Miss relied heavily on its passing game immediately after Lacy exited, running 10 passing plays to just two runs in the first 12 snaps after he came out of the game. With another injury concern on the depth chart behind Lacy, the Rebels are hoping to get him back on the field as soon as possible.

What happened to Kewan Lacy?

Lacy landed hard on his right shoulder while being tackled by LSU and appeared to be in discomfort as he headed back to the locker room.

The injury appears to be unrelated to the ailment that kept him out of a portion of Ole Miss' season-opening win against Louisville, as he dealt with a thigh bruise during that contest.

1Kewan Lacy
2Makhi Frazier
3JT Lindsey

Not only is Lacy battling an injury, but backup Makhi Frazier, a Michigan State transfer, was on the injury report this week with an undisclosed issue and wasn't the first running back to get a touch after Lacy exited.

The first carry by someone other than Lacy or Trinidad Chambliss on Saturday instead belonged to JT Lindsey, a redshirt freshman who actually started his career at LSU before transferring to Ole Miss last offseason; Lindsey had just eight career carries entering Saturday's game.
