Kevin Durant makes stunning statement about Warriors’ reputation before his arrival

Kevin Durant’s first season with the Houston Rockets ended in disappointment after injuries derailed the team’s postseason hopes. KD joined the Houston team in a historic seven-team trade with championship aspirations in mind and he was expected to help elevate Houston into title contention. However, the Rockets’ playoff run ended after the Los Angeles Lakers eliminated them from the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Since winning his last NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors, Durant has been unable to add another title to his resume. Interestingly, the superstar recently revealed that his decision to join Golden State did not feel like a move to a powerhouse franchise at the time. During a recent interview, Durant explained that he actually viewed the Warriors as something of an underdog organization when he signed with them.

“I didn’t have no relationship with nobody on the Warriors. They never been a winning organization when I was in the league. Nobody liked Golden State. It felt like an underdog franchise to me. Like, shit, this feels like where I'm supposed to be. It ain't LA, it ain't New York, it feels like where I'm supposed to be,” Durant said.

However, Durant’s comments raised eyebrows given the circumstances surrounding his arrival. At the time he signed, Golden State was already widely regarded as one of the NBA’s elite teams.

The Warriors had just completed a historic 73-9 regular season, setting a new league record for wins in a single season. In addition, the roster already featured an established championship core led by Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

However, the partnership was extraordinarily successful. Durant led the Warriors to win back-to-back NBA championships and earned Finals MVP honors in both title runs.

Since departing Golden State, Durant has had stints with the Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, and now the Houston Rockets. Yet despite playing alongside several talented rosters, Durant has not been able to secure the elusive third championship he has been chasing since leaving the Bay Area.
