Boston Celtics trade rumors ahead of the looming NBA Draft are beginning to take a fascinating turn.

The Celtics and Miami Heat are reportedly in a tight race for Milwaukee Bucks phenomenon Giannis Antetokounmpo, with a trade involving one of the storied Eastern Conference franchises expected to be completed soon.

If the Celtics secure Antetokounmpo’s services, NBA reporter Evan Sidery thinks Boston could follow up the move by acquiring a $125 million Sixth Man of the Year (2023-24).

“A potential swap of Derrick White for Naz Reid and draft capital is picking up some steam behind the scenes,” Sidery wrote on X/Twitter Monday. “If the Celtics acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, Reid would be a fantastic stretch five fit alongside him.”

Reid epitomizes what it means to be a highly productive second-unit stretch-four in the big leagues. The LSU product’s shot preparation, quick release, and ability to make opponents pay the price for wild, out-of-control closeouts make him an asset that a contender like the Celtics should be interested in acquiring.

Reid contributed 13.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with the Timberwolves in Year 7, shooting 45.6% from the field and 36.2% from beyond the arc. Again, the Celtics’ main focus at the moment is ensuring they outduel Miami for Antetokounmpo and his game-changing skill set.

That said, Reid would be a solid supporting member to pair with the 10-time All-Star in Boston.
