AEW has a working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling. The Japanese promotion is going to host Wrestle Kingdom 20 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, on January 4, 2026. Eight matches have been announced for the show so far.

Wrestle Kingdom 20 has an amazing match card, but fans are mostly focused on Hiroshi Tanahashi retirment match and ceremony. The Ace's final match is going to be against NJPW legend Kazuchika Okada. This showdown is going to be emotional, and it seems like thousands are going to tune in. Interesting, two massive AEW names are confirmed to attend this retirement ceremony.

New Japan Pro Wrestling has revealed that Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are going to attend Tanahashi's retirement ceremony. Both wrestlers have spent multiple years in the Japanese company and are deeply respected by fans of the company.

The cleaner is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, a two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, and a two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. Meanwhile, Ospreay has held the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship once and the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship twice. Both AEW names have met Tanahashi in the squared circle multiple times.

AEW star Kenny Omega feels a kinship with Hiroshi Tanahashi

Tanahashi and Omega have locked horns multiple times in NJPW. They respect each other deeply, and it's a shame that we will never witness them battle again.

In a 2024 interview with the Japanese company, the Cleaner said that he feels a kinship with the Ace.

"I feel like there’s some sort of unspoken kinship there, a little bit. Here we are, two guys that were just trying to do the best that we could, and at first, I’m sure the reasons were very selfish. For me, I just wanted to be the best I could be, I wanted to be the best in the world," said Omega. [H/T: Fightful]

Hiroshi Tanahashi will be dearly missed once he hangs up his boots. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time.
