Keion White shooting updates: Latest news as 49ers DE recovering from incident in San Francisco

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White was the victim of a non-life-threatening shooting in San Francisco on Monday, Feb. 9.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4 a.m. local time. Details about the incident have not yet been made public, but it is known that White was struck in the ankle. He was taken to a local hospital, received medical attention and underwent surgery for his non-life-threatening injuries. 

Here are the latest updates as White recovers from getting shot in San Francisco.

White is in his third year in the NFL and just finished his first season with the 49ers. The defensive end was the victim of a non-life-threatening shooting that occurred around 4 a.m. PT that required him to seek medical attention. Once he was checked out, it was determined that he needed surgery, which he was currently undergoing when the news broke about the incident. The injury is not expected to be career-threatening. 

Police have provided limited comments on the incident. So far, all that is known is that the altercation took place at an event on Mission Street, and that White is not believed to have been involved in the altercation and was a bystander, per The Athletic's Matt Barrows. 

The event comes the morning following the Seattle Seahawks win over the New England Patriots at Super Bowl 60, which was held in Santa Clara, California, near San Francisco.

Here is the statement from the 49ers in which the team confirms that White was indeed the victim of a shooting. 

From the 49ers: “Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”

White played the 2025 season on the third year of his rookie contract. He was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and signed to a four-year, $7.79 million deal. Ahead of the 2025 season, White was traded along with a conditional seventh-round pick to San Francisco for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
