The New York Giants exercised the fifth-year option in Kayvon Thibodeaux's contract, with the deadline passing Thursday.
A move that was already expected after general manager Joe Schoen revealed the team's decision following the 2025 NFL Draft, New York makes the move official before the May 1 deadline.
Thibodeaux, the No. 5 overall pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, is now expected to make $14.75 million fully guaranteed in 2026, per Over The Cap.
Despite the Giants adding Penn State star Abdul Carter to the pass-rush rotation with the No. 3 overall pick, Schoen was adamant that New York isn't looking to trade Thibodeaux away.
"Kayvon is going to be here. We're excited to have him. You can't have enough pass rushers," Schoen said.
In 2024, Thibodeaux put together a strong campaign despite finishing with only 5.5 sacks. His 42 total pressures were just six fewer than his career-high mark, and he was on pace for 59 total pressures had he played a full season, per Next Gen Stats.
The Oregon product is just two years removed from an 11.5 sack season in 2023. Whether he will reach that mark again now that Carter has entered the rotation remains to be seen, but the Giants now boast a fierce defensive line.
There's always a chance a trade could come along down the road, but the very first selection during Schoen's tenure is officially under contract for the 2026 season.
