Entering Tuesday night's NBA Cup Final against the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks were looking to become the third team to lift the cup since the tournament was implemented in 2023.
For New York, it was OG Anunoby who came out hot, scoring 20 of his 28 points in the first half. In addition to Anunoby, the Knicks had six more players in double figures including Jalen Brunson who finished with 25 points. Karl-Anthony Towns posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds as New York dominated San Antonio on the glass.
The Knicks outrebounded the Spurs 59-42 and earned plenty of second chance opportunities on the offensive glass. Mitchell Robinson led all players with a game-high 15 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive boards. Despite trailing by five heading into the fourth, the Knicks dominated the Spurs in the final frame, outscoring their opponents 35-19 en route to an NBA Cup victory. The Knicks now join the Lakers and Bucks as the only franchises to capture the NBA Cup.
After the game, New York was eager to celebrate. However, throughout all the celebrations, Karl-Anthony Towns made a great gesture. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, Towns is donating his NBA Cup prize money ($530k) to his foundation in the Dominican Republic. The money will be used to help families and communities in financial hardship build homes.
In the meantime, Towns and the Knicks will be back in action soon as they travel to Indiana to face the Pacers on Thursday.
