College basketball royalty clashes in an NCAA tournament second-round game Sunday as No. 4 seed Kansas faces No. 5 seed St. John's.
The Jayhawks (24-10) got 28 points from freshman Darryn Peterson in their first-round win against Cal Baptist, but had to sweat it out to the end despite taking a 20-point lead into halftime. The Red Storm (29-6) is on a roll with seven straight wins, an emphatic bounceback after getting mauled by UConn late in the regular season. St. John's routed the Huskies in the Big East tournament final, then blew open its NCAA first-round game against Northern Iowa in the first half on the way to a 79-53 win. Zuby Ejiofor led the way with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in that one.
The Kansas-St. John's series dates to 1950 but they have only faced off in the NCAA tournament once, with the Jayhawks prevailing in the 1952 national championship game. Who will come out on top this time?
