Kamil Majchrzak is set to lock horns with Cruz Hewitt in the first qualifier of the 2026 Brisbane International on Saturday, January 3.

Majchrzak is returning to action for the first time since his first-round exit at Hellenic in early November last year. The Pole enjoyed a breakout 2025 season with a 15-12 win-loss record on the tour.

The 29-year-old won two Challenger-level events, but his best performance came at Wimbledon. He stunned Matteo Berrettini in a five-set thriller in the opening round. Also, he defeated Ethan Quinn and Arthur Rinderknech before losing to Karen Khachanov in the fourth round, his best result in a Grand Slam event. He also reached the third round of the US Open and finished the season with his career-high rankings of No. 62.

Hewitt, on the other hand, will be under the scanner due to his last name. The 17-year-old is the son of the former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, who famously won the Brisbane event by beating Roger Federer in 2014. Hewitt is ranked No. 735 in the men's singles and has received a qualifier for the Brisbane International and Australian Open.

Hewitt is seeking a breakthrough season following his impressive ITF and Challenger-level runs in 2025. He reached the semifinals of the M25 Brisbane event in October and also won the main draw match against James McCabe in the Brisbane 3 Challenger event in November last year. Hewitt will hope for a home advantage after receiving a wildcard, but is unlikely to overcome Kamil Majchrzak, who is placed 673 above in the men's singles rankings.

Kamil Majchrzak will look to pick up where he left off last season. He qualified for the Australian Open main draw after winning three qualifiers and also reached the Marrakech semifinals after coming through the qualifiers. He is second-seeded in the Brisbane qualifiers and is expected to beat Hewitt without any trouble in the first qualifier.
