"Justin Fields is blind lmao": NFL fans react as Browns' Ronnie Hickman ends Jets QB's no INT streak

Justin Fields was front and center as a pawn in the team's now-weekly practice of hiding who the starting quarterback was going to be heading into the game. Fields' name ended up getting called to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 10, and the quarterback might have wished it hadn't been.

Had he not been called upon, he would have kept his interception-free streak alive, but instead threw his first interception of the season. Fans reacted to the play en masse, with some calling out Fields but others applauding the move by the defender, Ronnie Hickman.

Fans gave the Browns defender credit for making the interception.

"Nice anticipation Ronnie. Always making good D," one posted. "Ronnie saw it the whole way," another posted. "Perfect timing and positioning—big play!" one congratulated.

Hickman was positioned over the middle, draped underneath the route. Fields had delivered a play-action fake designed to make the linebacker freeze or come toward the line of scrimmage. However, he stayed in coverage and came down with the ball, returning it to the edge of the Jets' redzone.

It was Hickman's second interception of his 2025 season and the third of his NFL career. The move ended arguably the most impressive streak on the New York Jets this season.

Exploring how long Justin Fields had gone without an interception

It was the first interception Justin Fields had thrown all season long. However, how long had it been since the last time he had been picked off in the NFL? Fields threw just one interception in his entire 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The turnover occurred on Sept. 22, 2024, against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 of the season. By that math, it had been almost 14 months since Fields' last interception and only his second since Christmas Day in 2023.

Of course, fans might be quick to note that Fields could be one of the least turnover-prone quarterbacks to be benched twice in two seasons. Now, for every turnover-prone passer, they can at least take solace knowing that avoiding interceptions isn't an automatic antidote, either.

In the end, Justin Fields' example adds ammunition to the position that winning is the only guarantee to avoid the cold, hard, metal bench.

At 1-7, the Jets are closer to mathematical elimination than ever. As such, a change to Tyrod Taylor at any point once again is theoretically possible, but Jets fans can't expect much. While Fields has managed to lose while avoiding turnovers, Taylor has managed to throw three interceptions in three games.

Perhaps a bit like Grand Theft Auto VI's delay, fans will have to wait at least one year for the team to revive itself.
