Germany suffered a 2-0 defeat against France in the third-place playoff game in the UEFA Nations League in Stuttgart. However, it was a momentous occasion for Bayern Munich youngster Tom Bischof, who made his debut for the national team while coming on for teammate Leon Goretzka in the 65th minute.
The 19-year-old rose through the ranks at Hoffenheim and impressed Bayern so much that they snapped him up after his contract ran out with Hoffenheim. The dynamic midfielder has signed a four-year contract with the German champions, which will keep him at the club until 2029.
Bischof's first action for the Bavarians will be at the Club World Cup after they have agreed to pay a €300,000 transfer fee for allowing the midfielder to join the club early. Hence, Vincent Kompany will have the 19-year-old's services.
The youngster's positive attitude impressed Germany national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who saw Bischof helping the physios in tidying up the dressing room. Although a small gesture, it left a big mark on Nagelsmann's mind.
"He's a fantastic young man with a very good character," Nagelsmann said after the game against France. "I hope he doesn't lose himself after moving to Bayern Munich, which is a huge step. There are many new influences in all areas of life there. I hope he keeps his down-to-earth, Odenwald mentality."
In the limited opportunity that he had, Bischof showed great composure on the ball and did not shy away from putting up challenges against French midfielders, who were far more experienced than him.

"He has a lot to offer and is a very fine footballer," Nagelsmann remarked. "Of course, he still has steps to take, but after the week of training, he deserved his debut. My sincere wish is that he remains as normal and grounded as possible. If he does, he has a great chance for a successful career."
Who is Bayern Munich's new addition, Tom Bischof?
Bischof, predominantly a box-to-box midfielder known for his combativeness, could also double up in a more attacking role. He is someone who could find the final ball in tight spaces with precision and could also win back possession in the middle using his physical stature.

— Bayern & Football (@MunichFanpage) June 8, 2025He was one of the best players for Hoffenheim in a very underwhelming season, where they could have been relegated. As per FBref, Bischof had averaged 4.61 shot-creating actions, 1.78 progressive carries, 3.17 tackles, and 2.01 blocks per 90 minutes.
The youngster is a proper, well-rounded midfielder, plus he is left-footed, which adds to his dynamism in midfield for Bayern Munich. He could form a great partnership with the likes of Aleksandar Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich in midfield for the Bavarians.
He is coming in with Bundesliga experience and could well be a player for the long haul for Bayern and also for the Germany national team.
