Jon Rahm believes there’s ‘no point in dwelling on’ possible LIV Golf demise

Jon Rahm brushed off a question about LIV Golf’s precarious situation on Thursday.

After the first round of the rebel league’s Mexico City event, the Spaniard said he wasn’t “wasting time thinking about” the rumors of LIV’s impending demise

“Until the people in charge told me whether or not the rumors were true, there was no point in dwelling on it or wasting time thinking about it,” Rahm said. “We were here, we knew we were going to play, so the idea was to prepare for a tournament. That’s all.

“Since everything happened so suddenly and quickly, I wasn’t too worried about it because we usually know something before the rumors even start. There’s always someone in the league who knows something. It was so fast that I wasn’t really worried about it.”

The two-time major champion’s comments come amid a chaotic few days for LIV.

On Wednesday, chatter surfaced of a coming shutdown for the golf league, which officially launched in 2022 and has since shaken up the sport.

LIV and its executives were reportedly summoned to New York for an “emergency summit” as the tour kicked off its Mexico City tournament.

CEO Scott O’Neil pushed back on the notion that LIV was entering its final days earlier this week, but admitted Friday that the Saudi-backed league’s future beyond 2026 is in question

“The reality is that you’re funded through the season, and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to keep us going,” O’Neil said in an interview with TNT Sports UK that was later taken off its X account.

“But that’s not different from any other private equity-funded business in the history of mankind.”

Fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia also didn’t reveal much when asked questions by reporters about the supposed crisis facing LIV.

“We haven’t heard anything other than what Yasir [Al-Rumayyan] told us at the beginning of the year. That he’s behind us, that they have a long-term project,” Garcia said Wednesday. “You know there are always a lot of rumors, and I can’t tell you anything more than what we already know.”

Through Friday’s second round in Mexico City, Rahm was alone atop the leaderboard at 10-under.
