John Harbaugh reveals key in Ravens' defensive turnaround

The Baltimore Ravens' defense was the subject of a lot of criticism early in the season, with the unit struggling to keep teams under 30 points.

In four of their first five games, the Ravens gave up at least 37 points per game, which isn't what we have become accustomed to from a Baltimore defense in decades. But over the past three weeks, something has changed...the Ravens are back.

The defense hasn't allowed more than 17 points in a game while getting five turnovers to be back to its suffocating best. But what has been the catalyst for such a huge turnaround?

Head coach John Harbaugh knows.

“Our guys on defense will be the first to tell you that we just got to keep getting better,” Harbaugh said. “The key is that they've taken that mindset, the mindset has been let's get better. Nobody was down, they didn't question the fact that they were good, and could play great defense. I still think that there's a lot better defense in us, and they'll tell you that.

"So, really nothing's changed. We just got to keep striving to get better at all the little things every single play.”

Can Ravens' defense maintain the rage?

If Baltimore is to punch its ticket to the postseason, the defense is going to have to.

With Lamar Jackson back, we saw what this offense can do, and it obliterated the Miami Dolphins, which was helped by the defense only allowing six points.

Granted, there are still five division games left for the Ravens to navigate, so things will only get tougher, plus with a 3-5 record, the margin for error is nearly gone. So yes, the Ravens' defense is going to have to keep this pace going for the rest of the season if they want to be part of the postseason.

Can they do it? The past three games prove they can, but sustaining it for another nine weeks? Yeah, that's tough.
