John Cena recently shared the real reason for his shocking WWE heel turn. The legend retired from in-ring competition at Saturday Night's Main Event last weekend.

Speaking with Cody Rhodes on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Cena revealed why the company decided to turn him heel at Elimination Chamber 2025. Cena won the Men's Elimination Chamber match and then aligned with Travis Scott and The Rock after the match. The 48-year-old shared that the company turned him heel to create a moment, and there wasn't a ton of planning after that.

"They wanted to make Elimination Chamber a moment. I get it. The business is about making moments. There is nothing wrong with that. You don’t always need a nine-month trajectory. You can understand, ‘We have a ton of eyes on tonight. Let’s do something impactful, and then you as artists can run through the maze and figure it out.’ In February, they wanted to make a moment and they asked me to be part of it. ‘Holy hell, what a challenge to me creatively.’ The loss of that good side at all costs, to get that, was easy to explain," he said.
