Joe Johnson loves what Miami's Bam Adebayo can bring to Team USA in the 2028 Olympics

The Miami Heat have not had the best version of Bam Adebayo this season. They know that Adebayo is capable of doing more, especially on the offensive end. Defensively, Adebayo can hang with the best of them, as he can switch onto anyone at the perimeter, but he can also protect the rim.

That could be valuable for Team USA at the 2028 Olympics. They are looking to defend their gold medal, but they won't have the superstars who have carried them. Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant will likely not join up with the team anymore.

Johnson sees Adebayo as a contributor to Team USA in 2028

Team USA is always filled with talented players, and the next generation has some big names. Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum are the faces of the team, but they also need some players who will serve a role.

Adebayo won't be the superstar who scores 15 points in a quarter, but he can be the defensive anchor. He can also be a leader, considering he was a member of the past two Olympic-winning teams.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is in charge of Team USA, so bringing Adebayo is normal. He is most familiar with Adebayo, and structuring the defense around him is understandable because he is one of the NBA's best. That is a logical conclusion to have, and former All-Star Joe Johnson agrees.

Johnson believes that Adebayo is the right fit for the center spot. Team USA already has some promising centers in the form of Jalen Duren and Chet Holmgren, but they are not as experienced with Team USA as Adebayo.

"He’s like a Hybrid. He can handle the ball, he can initiate your offense, he can pass, he can play make, he can do a little bit of everything. Bam like a little wild card, I like having Bam on there," Johnson said on Nightcap with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.

It is a great point because Adebayo is one of the most versatile bigs out there. Picking Duren and Holmgren is good, but Adebayo might be the best fit. He can easily slot into the center spot alongside anyone, and he won't take away much from any of the other star players.
