Just when the Cincinnati Bengals appeared to have hope that they could save their season in the wake of Joe Burrow's injury, things are starting to go in the opposite direction once again.
The Bengals acquired Joe Flacco after Jake Browning showed he couldn't keep the team afloat, and while Flacco had two strong games to start his Bengals tenure and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, Cincinnati went backwards in Week 8 following a brutal loss to the lowly New York Jets.
Late in that contest, Flacco got injured and nearly missed the final drive of the game. He was able to return, although he couldn't get the job done.
Now, it looks like he's in danger of missing time. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Flacco is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder and he's uncertain to play in Week 9.
"Bengals QB Joe Flacco is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder & his status is up in the air for Sunday vs the #Bears, sources say. Flacco left the loss to the Jets, then came back late," Rapoport said. "Coach Zac Taylor called him day-to-day. Jake Browning is the backup."
Flacco missing even a single game could be devastating for the Bengals' playoff hopes.
Cincinnati can't afford to lose many more games and not having Flacco and having to go back to Browning obviously hurts their chances of winning after how poorly Browning played in the aftermath of Burrow's injury.
Luckily, the Bengals have a bye in Week 10, which will give Flacco another week to get right without being in danger of missing another game if he does not suit up on Sunday.
