The New York Jets could look to upgrade a few positions of need ahead of April's draft, and it sounds like the team is targeting another impact playmaker for quarterback Geno Smith.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the Jets could make a trade for a veteran player, with wide receiver being a possibility.
Cimini also added some receivers New York could target in a trade, including Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Rashod Bateman of the Baltimore Ravens, Quentin Johnston of the Los Angeles Chargers, and Dontayvion Wicks of the Green Bay Packers.
"Don't sleep on the possibility of Mougey trading for a veteran. It's already been an active offseason for wide receiver trades, and you're talking about a GM who has made 12 player trades in a little over a year," Cimini said.
"Brian Thomas Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars), Rashod Bateman (Baltimore Ravens), Quentin Johnston (Los Angeles Chargers) and Dontayvion Wicks (Green Bay Packers) have been mentioned as trade possibilities."
Outside of Garrett Wilson, the Jets lack proven production in their receiver room, and the position group is incredibly young, so it would be wise to add a receiver with some experience.
Thomas Jr. is the best player out of the four names Cimini listed, but it doesn't look like the Jaguars have any interest in trading him.
Bateman, Johnson, or Wicks would be solid acquisitions, but none are game changers and could serve as viable No. 2 receivers opposite Wilson.
New York's interest in trading for a receiver isn't shocking, but there aren't many high-level options left on the market. We'll see what general manager Darren Mougey decides to do as the draft rapidly approaches.
