Jets report has 'all signs' pointing towards reunion with Pro Bowl Raiders QB

The New York Jets have made a plethora of free agent moves so far this offseason, with the focus being on the defensive side of the ball.

While they've overhauled the defense for Aaron Glenn, they now need to rebuild the offense. And it all starts with the new quarterback taking over for Justin Fields.

According to Connor Hughes of SNY, not only do the Jets have a preference for their QB room, but "all signs" point to a reunion with a Pro Bowler in former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith.

'All signs' point to Jets signing Geno Smith

"So all signs right now are pointing towards another reunion, and that reunion being Geno Smith," Hughes said. "The Jets would prefer if they could make it work financially to add two veteran quarterbacks this offseason, one being Geno Smith, one being Carson Wentz."

Smith is a 35-year-old veteran quarterback who's expected to be released on Wednesday once the new league year officially begins.

This reunion seems to be much more than a simple possibility based on this report from Hughes. His report indicates that this is almost a certainty.

Of course, Smith might choose another team, or the Jets might be able to land someone like Kyler Murray instead, changing their plans.

But, with the Jets strongly eyeing Smith, coming off a 19-touchdown and 17-interception season with the Raiders, another reunion could take place for the Jets this offseason.

They've already brought back Demario Davis on a $22 million deal, and if they can land Smith in free agency after he's cut, then the Jets would likely have a Smith on a veteran minimum deal at just $1.3 million.

Hughes is also reporting that Carson Wentz is high on the Jets' list of priorities. The former Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings QB is a decent backup option who would form a nice duo with Smith in 2026.

This offseason, the Jets aren't likely to find their franchise QB. But a bridge in Smith or Wentz wouldn't be the worst option. They would help the receivers showcase their talent, something the Jets need to see this upcoming season for the future of the team.
