Jets' Mark Scheifele breaks silence on being snubbed from Team Canada's Olympic hockey roster

Mark Scheifele had a case to make Team Canada's Olympic hockey roster.

In the end, the Winnipeg Jets' leader was one of the most obvious snubs from the superpowered team.

Scheifele spoke with The Athletic's Chris Johnston on Thursday about missing the roster, and he was matter of fact about things.

"I don't know what else I could have done," Scheifele said.

At the time of the roster release, Scheifele had the most points of any Canadian forward who wasn't chosen to the team.

Through 38 games this season, the 32-year old center has scored 18 goals and dished out 27 assists for a total of 45 points.

The reality for Scheifele is that being a Canadian means that sometimes, you can really do everything within your power and still not make the national hockey team's roster for a tournament.

There are so many good players who didn't make it.

If you put together a Canada "B Team," it'd be one of the favorites to get a medal.

Scheifele may be involved if injuries happen between now and the Olympics, but if not, he'll just have to watch.

It's a bummer, to be sure. It's just how it goes for some really good hockey players from Canada.
