Jets' Garrett Wilson hypes up Adonai Mitchell, 'we're gonna use that boy'

The New York Jets pulled off two blockbuster trades on NFL deadline day, sending Suace Gardner and Quinnen Williams to new teams for a massive haul of draft picks and players.

In the trade sending Gardner to the Colts, other than the two first-round picks the Jets got in return, they also acquired wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.

The second-year receiver has joined the Jets, and after Thursday's practice, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, hyped up his new receiver with a strong opinion on his role on the Jets going forward.

Rosenblatt shared that Wilson said Mitchell "had a hell of a day at practice." While an encouraging sign already, Wilson's full comments are even more reason to be excited about the Jets' new wide receiver.

"He can go up and get the ball," Wilson said. "He's hard to tackle, and then you watch him move, and you're like: Oh, he don't move like his size. He has great body control ... we're going to use that boy. I'm excited to see what he does because he's got it all."

New York was able to acquire Mitchell as part of the Gardner trade, and it's looking like a huge pickup just two days later.

His full role in the offense won't fully be known until Sunday's matchup against the Cleveland Browns. But, based on these comments from Wilson, the new Jets receiver will get plenty of work right away.

Mitchell has nine catches for 152 yards and no touchdowns this season through nine weeks with the Colts. Against the Los Angeles Rams, he fumbled a would-be touchdown into the endzone for a touchback, and has since been benched.

In the five weeks since that blunder, he's played in four weeks, hauling in two of his four targets for 15 yards. But now on the Jets, with no receivers ahead of him on the depth chart other than Wilson, he has a chance to leave the mental mistakes behind.

Mitchell's competition in the WR room, other than Wilson, is Tyler Johnson, Allen Lazard, John Metchie, Arian Smith, and Isaiah Williams. The Jets will likely go with Mitchell over those receivers, as his potential is sky-high.

The new 23-year-old receiver on the Jets roster is looking to have a large role. He's impressed Wilson so much that the veteran Jets receiver is anticipating Mitchell having a heavy workload going forward.
