A Super Bowl–winning head coach whose career has included both success and controversy — and who has since reemerged as a social media personality — is not interested in joining the New York Jets.
According to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, the Jets reached out to former Buccaneers and Raiders head coach Jon Gruden about potentially joining Aaron Glenn’s coaching staff, but Gruden declined.

Gruden, 62, coached the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 before being traded to Tampa Bay, where he replaced Tony Dungy and won the Super Bowl in his first season. He was later fired by the Buccaneers and transitioned into television work before eventually returning to the Raiders for a second stint as head coach.
That return ended controversially when Gruden resigned after leaked emails surfaced that included homophobic language. He was briefly removed from the Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor before being reinstated last year.

In recent years, Gruden has reinvented himself as a media personality with Barstool Sports, building a sizable following. His name still surfaces whenever coaching openings arise that have ties to his past, and he often leans into the speculation on social media.
While the Jets’ inquiry went nowhere, it underscored that Gruden continues to be viewed by some as a serious football figure rather than just an online personality.
