Troy Aikman has found a new team - but he will not be returning to play, despite a recent video of him working out.

On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins were reported to have hired the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback as a consultant. He is expected to work alongside fellow Hall of Famer Dan Marino in this temporary role.

The Miami Dolphins have brought on Hall-of-Fame QB and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman as a consultant to advise the organization on its general manager search process, per sources. It is not a permanent role, but he will be an advisor throughout the process for the Dolphins’ next GM.

The Dolphins are currently managed on an interim basis by Champ Kelly. They and longtime executive Chris Grier had parted ways after a 28-6 home loss against the Baltimore Ravens in late October. In a statement, owner Stephen Ross said:

"As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait. We must improve — in 2025, 2026 and beyond — and it needs to start right now."

Troy Aikman got candid about becoming an executive

Speaking of Troy Aikman, he entertained the idea of entering the executive realm when speaking on the Sports Business Radio Podcast last month:

"Will it come along at some point? Maybe. As I've often said, if it doesn't… there will be a part of me that always wonders as to whether or not I could have done the job. I'd like to think I could and would be good at it."

He, however, acknowledged that adapting to the rigors of the job would be harder given his age:

"I'm not opposed to hard work… it's not so much the hours that would be involved, it's more about at my age currently, there would be a learning curve. Would an organization be willing to allow that to happen? It's a young man's game, it's a young man's world."

The Dolphins' new general manager is expected to inherit two pressing issues: the job security of head coach Mike McDaniel and the long-term future of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was benched in favor of rookie Quinn Ewers after Week 15.
