Jerry Jones gets bold Cowboys prediction from former Super Bowl champion after massive defensive overhaul

Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys' disappointing 2025 season saw their struggles on the defensive side of the ball, as they fielded one of the NFL's least effective defensive units, which was a major factor in the team's failure to reach the postseason. Their inability to consistently stop opposing offenses put immense pressure on the rest of the roster.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks if the Cowboys’ offseason investments produce the expected results, they could become one of the league's most dangerous teams in 2026.

"Everyone knows the Dallas Cowboy defense has been under fire and in question,” Schefter said. "And what did the Dallas Cowboys do? They went out and they dramatically upgraded their defense, which has to give people hope. It's not just coaches, it's players.

"New coaches, new players, and if this defense is as improved as Dallas thinks, then Dallas becomes dangerous for the 2026 season.”

Former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Chase Daniel echoed Schefter's optimism.

“Cowboys going to be way better than people think,” Daniel wrote.

The Cowboys made sweeping changes throughout their defensive organization. They parted ways with Matt Eberflus and brought in Christian Parker, who is respected for his expertise in developing defensive backs.

The front office also overhauled the roster by adding several new defensive starters. In the first round of the NFL Draft, the Cowboys selected standout Ohio State safety Caleb Downs with the No. 11 overall pick. They also strengthened the defensive backfield by signing experienced veteran Jalen Thompson.

The Cowboys also focused on improving the defensive front, acquiring pass rusher Rashan Gary while adding star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to bolster the interior. The additions are expected to boost the pass rush and potentially improve a run defense that struggled throughout last season.
