Jerry Jones adds 6'6" veteran edge for size and bite in Cowboys’ scary-deep defensive line

Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys no longer have a depth problem at edge rusher because of an aggressive 2026 offseason roster overhaul that completely restocked their defensive front. The transition to a 3-4 base defense under new Defensive Coordinator Christian Parker triggered a massive influx of both elite talent and heavy depth.

They added depth to their defensive front by signing former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Charles Snowden, according to Jordan Schultz. It is a low-risk, late-offseason move, but Snowden brings genuine NFL experience.

At 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, Snowden entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Virginia, signing with the Bears in 2021 before earning a regular role in Las Vegas.

During his two seasons with the Raiders, Snowden played in 31 games and started 18, recording 4.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss. Last season, he produced 11 quarterback pressures, three sacks, 17 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and one interception.

He got squeezed out in Vegas because the Raiders retooled their edge room. Las Vegas retained Maxx Crosby, signed Kwity Paye, brought back Malcolm Koonce, and drafted Keyron Crawford in the third round. This left Snowden as the odd man out, despite his solid production.

His addition makes the Dallas defensive front even more crowded. The Cowboys already feature Rashan Gary, first-round pick Malachi Lawrence, a re-signed Sam Williams, and 2025 second-rounder Donovan Ezeiruaku.

While the 28-year-old Snowden sits behind them on the depth chart, Pro Football Focus ranked him 44th among edge defenders last season. This makes him a legitimate rotational option rather than a simple camp body.

At 6-foot-6, he gives new defensive coordinator an experienced option for situational lineups. Whether he makes the 53-man roster or lands on the practice squad depends entirely on training camp. Either way, the Cowboys added real depth competition at no real cost.
