Jerry Jeudy disputes video where he appeared to pick Deshaun Watson as Browns' starting QB

Another summer, another Browns quarterback competition.

While there was some thought that first-year head coach Todd Monken might name a starter before training camp, the competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders remains active heading into camp as the Browns try to get back on track.

The winner will be throwing passes to Jerry Jeudy, who some fans believe has already made his pick in the quarterback battle.

Here's a look at the video and why Jeudy is disputing that he has a preferred quarterback.

A video from a TikTok live stream by Jeudy appeared to show the Browns WR answering a question about who he wants at quarterback by putting up four fingers — or Watson's jersey number.

Jeudy has caught passes from both Watson and Sanders, with Watson starting games for Cleveland early in Jeudy's first season with the Browns and Sanders starting games late last season. His opinion could carry weight as the competition presses on.

Jeudy, however, claims he didn't offer an opinion at all. Here's his response to the video.

Why Jerry Jeudy is disputing video

Jeudy says the video is edited to make it look as though he gave his thoughts on the Browns' quarterback competition, responding to ESPN Cleveland's tweet by saying, "yall cut the clip perfectly for that narrative."

In a follow-up tweet, Jeudy says he doesn't "speak on decisions that aren't mine to make" and urged those sharing the video to stop creating narratives.

It's impossible to go back and prove one way or another what Jeudy was responding to because it was a live stream, but it's highly unlikely any social media buzz will impact Monken's careful search for the right quarterback as he starts his first season as a head coach.

Who will be Browns' starting QB?

The Browns are holding an open competition at quarterback, but the job is believed to be between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.

Watson, acquired by the Browns more than four years ago in a blockbuster trade, has turned into a pariah after a sexual harassment suspension, on-field struggles and multiple tears of the same Achilles. Now healthy, Watson is hoping to get back to his old self and is showcasing some of the athleticism he once flashed.

"I wouldn't say it's a surprise, but it's exciting to see," Monken told reporters in the spring. "It's a weapon for him. It's one of his superpowers, his athleticism."

Sanders, meanwhile, was inherited by Monken as well but wasn't pushed out the door despite a rocky stint as a starter in his rookie season. The Colorado product went 3-4 as a starter but threw three more interceptions than touchdown passes and might be the underdog against the veteran Watson.
