Mark Cuban still bitter over Mavericks sale as he makes reluctant MLB move

Mark Cuban has joined Harbinger Sports Group as the investment group's president in a bid to acquire a stake in the soon-to-be Las Vegas Athletics, according to ESPN. The size of his expected ownership share has not been disclosed.

The move comes as Cuban's involvement in the Mavericks continues to diminish following his sale of a majority stake in the franchise to the Adelson family.

Harbinger Sports Group is led by founder and chief investment officer Rashaun Williams, while Steve Cannon serves as chief executive officer and Jonathan Mariner is the managing partner. Mariner previously worked as Major League Baseball's chief financial officer.

Cuban no longer has operational control over the Mavericks after selling the team. He has publicly acknowledged disagreements with the franchise's current ownership in recent months, including legal action related to the organization's proposed arena plans.

His ownership position could also change further. The original sale agreement includes a provision that could reduce Cuban's stake in the franchise from 27 percent to 7 percent if exercised by the Adelson family.

According to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, Cuban's pursuit of an MLB ownership opportunity is closely tied to his reduced role with the Mavericks.

Dallas has continued to make important basketball decisions without Cuban's input. After the change in ownership, the team made several key moves during the offseason, showing how the franchise is changing under its new leadership.
