Jennifer Lawrence has a soft spot for a novelty item. Vintage Issey Miyake cats, Twilight merch, a litany of slogan-topped baseball caps have all found their way into the actor’s wardrobe. Her latest addition, however, is a particularly nostalgic one. A fashion archive pull for all ages, if you will.
Spotted out in New York City on Tuesday, the actor and now beauty brand founder leaned into her always colorful approach to off-duty dressing. The actor wore a white Sesame Street tee emblazoned with a scribbly blue portrait of Ernie, which she paired with slouchy, tomato-red Freecity Airjump pants, a blue-and-red plaid shirt knotted around her waist, and an oversized cobalt Auralee canvas jacket with a dark shearling-style collar. On her feet, a pair of lack-and-white Vans Authentic sneakers, and she added some small oval sunglasses. Her blonde hair was pulled into a loose and laidback braid—a little Katniss Everdeen-esque. There was another throwback in the mix, too. Lawrence flashed the three-finger salute made famous by her Hunger Games character for the cameras.
Lawrence’s fall wardrobe has been an ongoing exercise in getting comfortable without sacrificing character. Just last week, she took a sumptuous, floor-sweeping chartreuse house coat by New York designer Colleen Allen out for a spin, layering it over a lime Miu Miu cardigan and finishing the look with fuzzy black slippers. Elsewhere, there have been oversized knits, louche trousers, baseball caps, and all manner of unexpected color combinations. Cozy season is literal in the Lawrence household.
