On Kylie Kelce’s popular podcast, Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelce, she frequently welcomes women onto the show to discuss everything from sports to motherhood. Recently, Kelce welcomed Jenni Farley onto the show. Farley, better known as JWoww, is famous for her role on The Jersey Shore, which she starred in for multiple years.
During this episode, Faley got vulnerable in a way she had never been before, specifically about her past struggles with mental health issues and postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter, Meilani.
“I actually believe I was suffering with postpartum after Meilani. But I guess when you’re crazy, you don’t think you’re crazy, and you only realize you’re crazy when you're out of it,” Farley began.
Farley explained that because this was such a busy time in her life, it wasn’t until much later that she realized that she was experiencing a mental health crisis.
“I was shooting Snookie and JWoww, so I went to a staged home for the birth of my first child, which is crazy. I actually really respected it because production had cameras everywhere, to make sure my daughter was okay. It was actually when we wrapped… I realized I was developing postpartum. I started putting cameras throughout my own house to make sure I could watch her.”
Farley became extremely paranoid and terrified about her daughter’s well-being. She would become obsessed with watching these cameras and was unable to sleep.
Looking back on this experience now, Farley believes that postpartum depression and psychosis should be discussed more. She hopes that being open about her experience will help other women going through this as well.
