The New York Giants looked likely to get Jaxson Dart back in Week 12.
The rookie quarterback had missed last Sunday's game with a concussion, but he returned as a limited practice participant to prep for this Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
Instead, Dart will miss out again.
He didn't clear the entirety of concussion protocol and was announced out on Friday.
Dart's health is of utmost importance for the Giants right now, given that their season isn't going anywhere of note. And in this case, it wasn't even their own caution. Dart simply didn't get through the league-mandated protocol for head injuries.
Going up against a strong Lions team, the Giants' task just got even tougher.
Who is the Giants' starting QB in Week 12 vs. Lions?
The Giants plan to again start Jameis Winston.
Winston started in Week 11 against the Packers and had a classically Jameis mix of good and bad.
Again, Winston gets the nod over Russell Wilson, who started the first three weeks of the season and was the QB that came on in relief of Dart in Week 10.
But interim head coach Mike Kafka is sticking with Winston with Wilson as his backup to take on Detroit.
