Jason Kidd wants Cooper Flagg to follow Giannis Antetokounmpo's footsteps for Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks officially have Cooper Flagg after a long month of waiting to take the Duke star.

With Flagg now in the fold in Dallas, there is again hope for the franchise that made the NBA Finals just 12 months ago. Of course, much of that hope was lost when the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a February shocker.

While Doncic isn’t in Dallas anymore to lead the Mavericks and run the point, Jason Kidd seems to have made an interesting decision for next season. In his post-draft press conference, Kidd made it clear that Flagg wouldn’t be treated like a typical forward in Dallas.

“I don’t look at the position,” Kidd said. “I want to put him at point guard. I want to make him uncomfortable.”

While Doncic is among the biggest point guards in the league, he was already playing the position when Kidd took over. However, a Flagg point guard experiment could look similar to what Kidd did when he coached the Milwaukee Bucks.

While Kidd was in Milwaukee, he tried using Giannis Antetokounmpo at point guard, and it worked out well in helping the future MVP develop as an all-around talent. Although Antetokounmpo only truly played point guard for a short time under Kidd, his time with the ball in his hands was high throughout Kidd’s tenure.

Of course, the influence of his time playing point guard is still apparent today as he continues to be one of the best players in basketball. Considering Flagg is seen as a generational prospect by some, it’s no surprise that Kidd, who was one of the best point guards in his playing days, would want to see his No. 1 pick have the ball as much as possible.
