The Detroit Lions were a mistake-filled mess in the divisional round loss against the Washington Commanders on Saturday night, and quarterback Jared Goff played a massive role in that.
Goff completed 23-of-40 passes for 313 yards and one touchdown, but he also threw three terrible picks and lost a fumble in the loss. One of those picks were returned for a touchdown, while another came in the end zone during the Lions' final drive of the first half.
The biggest stain on Goff's tenure with the Los Angeles Rams was that he couldn't get them over the hump to win a Super Bowl, and now that concern is front and center after the Lions' playoff loss on Saturday night.
Goff's failures in big moments led to the Rams trading him away to the Lions, who sent Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles in the trade. Since then, Stafford has won a Super Bowl and the Rams are still alive in the playoffs going into Sunday.
Safe to say, the Rams have easily won that trade, something Rams fans were quick to point out yet again after the Lions' brutal defeat against the Commanders.
I don’t ever want to hear people ask me who won the trade?
Jared Goff’s season is over before Matthew Stafford for the 2nd time since the trade.

"(I'm) painfully disappointed and sorry for the fans. This sucks. This is as tough as it gets," Goff said, per Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News. "It's hard. It's hard."
"It's a humbling game. It's a humbling sport," Goff added before noting that his performance will "eat me alive."
May have to turn off notifications from all the APOLOGIES that Lions fans will be sending my way tonight https://t.co/gJpDpipCtn

— Rams 24/7 (@ramsfan013) January 19, 2025At this point, there is no out with Goff anytime soon, so the Lions have to make it work with him. Goff is under contract through 2028 after inking a massive $212 million extension during the 2024 offseason.
Now, the Lions will look to the offseason, where they'll try to shore up any holes in order to gear up for another run in 2025.
