Japan figure skater Kaori Sakamoto weighs retirement at age that surprises fans

This could also be it for her at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. According to the NBC broadcast of the figure skating competition on Sunday, Sakamoto is weighing retirement.

First, she'll try to add to her medal haul while representing Japan.

Kaori Sakamoto has won a pair of Olympic medals.

She was a bronze medal winner individually in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. That same year, Japan won the silver medal in the team event.

Sakamoto is a three-time individual gold medalist at the World Championships level, in three consecutive seasons from 2021-22 to 2022-23 to 2023-24.

She was the first woman to win three consecutive world titles since Peggy Fleming did it in the '60s.
