Veteran safety Jamal Adams is inching toward the end of his career, and some could argue he's already there after two unsuccessful stints with the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans in 2024.
After three years with the New York Jets and four years with the Seattle Seahawks, Adams latched on with the Titans last season but couldn't carve out a role and was released after just three games.
He then signed with the Lions, who were plagued by injuries, yet Adams once again had trouble getting on the field and was cut loose after just two contests.
Ahead of what could be his ninth season in the NFL, Adams is hoping to reunite with his former team, but it isn't the Seahawks, Titans or Lions. Instead, Adams hopes to go back to where it all started in New York with the Jets.
“I would be lying to you if I sat here and said I didn’t want to return home. I would love to be back with the Jets, and obviously, finish it the right way. Man, that would be a dream come true, just to kind of patch up that relationship and make it work,” Adams said on The Jets Lounge.
“I’d just come in as a seasoned vet and just give game to the young cats and help in any way shape or form I can,” Adams added “I know I can still play football, I’m healthy, I can impact the game in a lot of ways. I just need that fair opportunity to come in and showcase what I can do.”
A former No. 6 overall pick of the Jets, Adams became one of the best safeties in the NFL during his three seasons with Gang Green but was ultimately traded to Seattle ahead of his fourth year in the league.
Adams got a chance to play under Jets head coach Aaron Glenn last season during his time with the Lions, which might actually hurt him more than help him.
Nevertheless, if Adams is willing to come aboard and take on a mentor and backup role, which he'll have to do after the Jets signed Tony Adams and Andre Cisco and drafted Malachi Moore, it couldn't hurt to add him.
