Vancouver Whitecaps superstar Thomas Muller has delivered his verdict on the potential participation of Lionel Messi in next summer's FIFA World Cup. The Argentine great has yet to confirm his participation in the tournament after helping La Albiceleste book their place in the finals.

Former Germany international Muller spoke with Magenta TV about the impact Lionel Messi would have if he plays in the tournament. He pointed out that with or without the Inter Miami man, he considers Argentina to be among the favourites, but with Messi, they could reach another level.

"It would be an interesting project, from my point of view, if he were there. That could, of course, change the whole balance of the team, for better or for worse", he said (via MARCA).

Thomas Muller and Messi recently faced each other for the 11th time as professionals when their sides met in the MLS Cup final. The 38-year-old Argentine provided two assists as his Inter Miami side ran out 3-1 winners to claim a maiden MLS Cup triumph. He lost to Muller's Germany in the World Cup final in 2014 and in the knockout stages in 2010, and recognises the ex-Bayern Munich man as an adversary.

Lionel Messi led the scoring in the qualifiers for the World Cup next summer, as Argentina qualified in style. The former Barcelona man has, however, repeatedly stressed on the need for caution in deciding whether or not he plays in the next edition of the competition. He led his country to glory in the last edition in Qatar three years ago, and will hope to feature again next summer.

Inter Miami eyeing move for Lionel Messi's teammate: Reports

Inter Miami are looking to sign Argentina international and Lionel Messi's teammate Giovani Lo Celso ahead of the 2026 season, as per reports. The MLS champions are keen to strengthen their ranks after enjoying unprecedent success in 2025.

Argentine journalist Gaston Edul reports that Inter Miami are prepared to approach Real Betis over a move for the Argentina international in the coming weeks. The Herons have yet to make an official approach, but are willing to move for the 29-year-old to beef up their midfield options.

Javier Mascherano's side are looking to replace Sergio Busquets in midfield after his retirement at the end of the 2025 season. A move for Lo Celso would be in keeping with the trend of signing players Lionel Messi is very familiar with for the club.
