Max (soon to be HBO Max) is offering a Penny(wise) for your thoughts with the latest look at their IT: Welcome to Derry.
The upcoming It prequel series based on Stephen King‘s horror classic was ordered back in February 2023, with It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019) director Andy Muschietti attached as showrunner alongside his sister and producer Barbara Muschietti. The series also sees the return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the clown.
The cast also features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
The teaser trailer, which (HBO) Max dropped on Tuesday, takes viewers back to 1962, 27 years before It. Clocking in at nearly two minutes long, the teaser trailer kicks off with a young hitchhiker, who gets picked up by a friendly couple.
“Now, you just tell us where home is, and we’ll get you back to your parents safe and sound, okay?” the man says.

The child replies, “Anywhere but Derry.”
Viewers then see a new Black family (Paige, Adepo, and their son) move into Derry and met with cold neighbors. Meanwhile a group of children attempt to investigate the frightening disappearances and happenings in Derry, despite the authorities urging them to “keep [their] noses out of police business.” Of course, the trailer would not be complete without a Pennywise appearance at the tail end.
King, who published It in 1986, still has a stronghold over TV and film, with one of his novellas inspiring Oz Perkins’ The Monkey (now available on VOD).
IT: Welcome to Derry floats onto HBO and HBO Max this fall. Check out the teaser trailer above.
