WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio is undoubtedly one of the fastest-rising superstars today. Triple H and the creative team are aware of Dominik's potential and seemingly consider him a future WrestleMania headliner.
"Dirty" Dom was in the mid-card championship picture throughout the year. He even seized a massive win over WWE icon John Cena at the Survivor Series: WarGames 2025 Premium Live Event and became a two-time Intercontinental Champion.
Despite his recent success, Dominik's current run might be over due to a massive setback.
Big trouble for the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion
"Dirty" Dom is one of the hardest-working superstars on the World Wrestling Entertainment roster. However, he might not be able to continue his dream run due to a potential injury.
The King of Luchadors is a double champion, as he holds the Intercontinental and AAA Mega titles. Hence, he is active in both WWE and AAA. On December 20, Dominik teamed up with El Grande Americano against Rey Mysterio and Rey Fenix at AAA's Guerra de Titanes.
During the tag team contest, Dominik seemingly sustained a shoulder injury that could keep him away from action and ruin his ongoing push.
The Intercontinental Champion's injury might be serious
Dominik Mysterio has seemingly been pulled from weekly shows. Moreover, he is not part of the Stamford-based promotion's ongoing Holiday Tour.
"Dirty" Dom was all set to lock horns with his father, Rey Mysterio, at one of the live events, but he was pulled from the show, and Grayson Waller replaced him. This is a subtle hint that the 28-year-old star's shoulder injury might be serious, forcing him to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.
Dominik Mysterio was seemingly set for a big push
"Dirty" Dom captured a big win over John Cena at Survivor Series: WarGames. During his first reign as the WWE IC Champion, he defeated superstars like Rusev and AJ Styles, among others.
Given his booking as champion, the creative team had plans to push The King of Luchadors in prominent storylines, and 2026 could have been a big year for him. However, if Dominik is unable to compete due to his shoulder injury, his push might be over for the time being.
We at Sportskeeda hope Dominik returns to in-ring action soon and is not forced to remain on the sidelines for a long time.
